It is based on two comprehensive chapters (10 & 12) from Orthopaedic Physical Therapy by Robert A. Donatelli and Michael J. Wooden (4th Edition). These chapters, The Shoulder and Dysfunction, Evaluation, and Treatment of the Wrist and Hand, cover a wealth of information on approaches to treatment of shoulder, wrist, and hand conditions, including anatomy and biomechanics, examination techniques, non-operative treatment considerations, post-surgical rehabilitation protocols, and useful case studies.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------***COURSE OBJECTIVES***After successfully completing this continuing education module, the learner should be able to: Understand functional anatomy and mechanics of the shoulder complex, wrist, and hand Complete a thorough examination and evaluation of shoulder conditions, including the use of special tests Implement a detailed assessment of the wrist and hand, including pain, edema, wounds, vascular issues, range of motion, sensibility, strength, and dexterity Understand the pathophysiology of rotator cuff injury Apply concepts of nonoperative rehabilitation for rotator cuff injuries Implement appropriate post-surgical rehab care after rotator cuff, SLAP, and Bankart repairs Understand concepts of rehab following shoulder arthroplasty Complete upper extremity screening tests Understand the appropriate application of various sensibility and dexterity tests for the hand Be familiar with upper extremity outcomes measures and their uses Design appropriate in-clinic, home program, and athletic rehab plans for shoulder, wrist, and hand dysfunction
